Depth Perception

The Grand Ole Party takes this one by a landslide. Not only is Sen. McCain a war hero who has experience with guns and bombs, but his running mate also knows how to handle a rifle. Granted, there is little else to do in Alaska besides hunt.

Clutch performer

Who else but the GOP, since Sen. McCain is a decorated war hero?

Sportscasting

This is no contest since Gov. Palin was a sportscaster for KTUU-Anchorage in 1988. She also won the Miss Wasilla beauty contest and was the second runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant.

Barack Obama

Athleticism

While both Sen. Obama and Gov. Palin have played competitive basketball, the edge here is clearly with Obama. Sen. Obama still plays basketball recreationally, even during his campaign. He also schooled ESPN’s Sports Center anchor Stewart Scott on national television. Sen. Biden was also a top-notch athlete at Archmere Academy back in the early ’60s.

Fan Award

For the first time, Sen. Biden takes center stage. Recently in Wilmington, Del., the University of Delaware graduate met the Blue Hens football team and said, “I told the folks in Ohio that we’d kick Ohio State’s ass!” While not a great way to get votes, Biden proved how loyal a fan he was by ranking the Division I-AA Blue Hens over the Buckeyes, the best in the Big 10 football conference despite getting dismantled by USC.

Leadership

While Sen. Obama is the most outspoken candidate, Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin make for a more vocal duo. Sen. Biden is not the world’s greatest orator, but he has Gov. Palin beat in experience.

Overall

While the GOP seems to edge this one out quantitatively, McCain and Palin have an older combined age than Obama and Biden. Since age plays a huge factor in athletics, this race is a push.
