The second annual Night at the Pageant (NAP) — starring rap duo EarthGang and pop singer Bryce Vine — had a lower student turnout than last year’s concert, despite a $25,000 increase in the talent budget.
Voting for this semester’s Student Union (SU) election begins at 9:00 p.m. CST on Nov. 12 and will close at 9:00 p.m. CST on Nov. 14. Student Life reached out to the 55 candidates regarding their platforms and how they hope to help students— 27 candidates responded.
In the midst of Student Union (SU) Treasury’s diminishing Budgets and Appeals account, some student organizations have expressed concern about putting on student programming, while others feel that they will be able to continue their regular programming in the spring. For some groups, SU’s current financial situation does not impact their funding for the rest of the year. SU has three tiers of recognition for SU-funded student organizations: CAT I, II, and III. Student organizations known as CAT I organizations make up 59.3% of all SU-funded student organizations — these organizations are the only SU-funded clubs that can appeal for money during the year to fund events.
As a student body, we should not be complacent — we should instead strive to increase voter turnout to make SU more representative of the student body and its beliefs.
